We use registered nurses to conduct our assessments

Our team of registered nurses are experienced in Occupational Health. Their depth of knowledge allows them to do more than just 'tick the box’, and they often pick up on warning signs outside the parameters of the assessments. Our clients tell us this is an excellent value-add for their workplace.

Our equipment is state-of-the-art and regularly calibrated

We prioritise the accuracy of our equipment by conducting regular calibrations. Our hearing kits are calibrated annually, and our spirometers – the instrument we use to test lung function – are calibrated daily. Hence, the assessments we provide to our clients are highly accurate.

We offer a mobile on-site service

No room on site? No problem! Our nurses visit clients in their workplaces to conduct on-site assessments. Our mobile vans are fully equipped with the equipment we need to conduct evaluations from the van, minimising disruption and maximising convenience.

We use bespoke and secure technology

Health Tick records and stores client data using a private and secure technology system called Imperans. Updated with assessment results in real-time, Imperans provides clients with fast, interactive, aggregated reporting on their employees’ health.

We have an extensive service offering

Health Tick offers Pre-employment Medicals, Driver Medicals, Annual Health Monitoring, Well-being Assessments, Exit Medicals, Flu Vaccinations, and Respiratory Fit Testing. We can also help our clients access our sister company, The Drug Detection Agency (TDDA). TDDA is IANZ accredited and offers 24/7 mobile drug and alcohol testing, training, education, and substance use policy design in NZ workplaces.

Robert Taylor
DIRECTOR

As MercyAscot’s Chief Financial Officer, Robert is responsible for the overall provision of MercyAscot’s core financial services and systems. He also plays a major role in the financial management of several businesses related to MercyAscot’s parent company, Healthcare Holdings Limited (HHL), and was appointed as the HHL Group CFO in July 2018. He also sits on several Boards for businesses related to HHL, including MercyAscot (Ascot Hospitals and Clinics Limited).  Before working in healthcare, Robert held many senior roles in various sectors, including retail, banking, and auditing, both in New Zealand and the UK. Robert holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and is a member of and registered mentor with the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA Designation).

Julia Smith
DIRECTOR

Based in Australia, Julia has extensive C-Suite experience partnering with boards and CEOs across various industries to execute group-wide strategic plans and lead new commercial pursuits in Australia, New Zealand and China.  Her experience spans operational management, strategy, M&A, finance, legal, project management, procurement, business transformation and risk management.  This includes 12 years of Big 4 consulting, corporate finance and audit assignments in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and USA.

Julia has franchise experience as the Group CFO for an NZ investment group that owned New Zealand Natural Ice Cream, which had 700 global franchisees. BCom and FCPA qualified, Julia has also held seven directorships over the past ten years.

Callum MacDonald
DIRECTOR

Callum is the principal of Buchanan Macdonald Chartered Accountants, a prominent North Shore Chartered Accounting and business advisory firm. Previously, he spent several years in an international chartered accounting firm after a period working for a large district health board. Callum splits his time between client advice, directorships, advisory board roles, trusteeships (including Auckland Volunteer Coastguard Charitable Trust and Capri Hospital Charitable Trust) and Court expert witness work. He is a Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand member and the Institute of Directors.

Glenn Dobson

Glenn was a Senior Sergeant in the New Zealand Police, often working with the negative effects of drugs at a community level. He went on to several key management positions in local and central Government organisations before joining TDDA. Glenn is a serving board member of the US-based National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association (NDASA) and is also qualified as a trained drug abuse recognition trainer from the California Narcotics Officers Association ‘CNOA’.

Kirk Hardy
director

Kirk co-founded The Drug Detection Agency (TDDA), Australasia’s leading workplace drug and alcohol testing and education provider. Kirk is tasked with creating the strategy and managing the operations that keep TDDA the market leader in Australasia for drug and alcohol testing and education services. He ensures that TDDA’s end-to-end services provide clients with compliant systems and a high level of comfort in creating safer workplaces.

With over 16 years of experience, Kirk is an expert on substance use and testing technologies in the workplace. He is a former long-standing board member of the U.S.-Based Drug and Alcohol Testing Association (DATIA) and National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association (NDASA) and the chair of both organisations’ international committees. Kirk regularly presents at international conferences on drug and alcohol use in the South Pacific and the ever-developing drug market and is New Zealand’s leading expert on current global and local drug trends.

Before joining TDDA in 2005, Kirk was a New Zealand Police Drug Squad Detective, investigating national and international drug syndicates and targeting organised crime groups. He has maintained those contacts and is one of only four Australasian members of the Californian Narcotics Officers Association (CNOA), providing him access to the latest drug and alcohol testing technology.

Andrew Wong
director

Andrew Wong is the Managing Director of HealthCare Holdings Ltd, a private healthcare investment company. He qualified as a specialist medical practitioner with a Masters in Public Health and a Fellowship from the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine. With a career of over 25 years in both public and private health in NZ and overseas, he has gained extensive experience in strategic planning and implementation, leadership and operational management. 

He is a director of several companies through his HealthCare Holdings role. These include Auckland Radiation Oncology, MercyAscot Hospitals, Kensington Hospital and Mercy Radiology. Other directorships include companies providing services in interventional cardiology, medical supplies, day and inpatient surgery and endoscopy, and veterinary radiology services. 

Andrew has held government appointments with Health Workforce New Zealand and the Health Innovation Hub, as well as sitting on the Executive of the New Zealand Private Hospitals Association. He is also a director of the NZX-listed aged care and retirement village operator Summerset Holdings and an Adjunct Professor at AUT.

Jim Doyle
CHAIRMAN

Jim, originally from Scotland, made his way to New Zealand (via South Africa for 12 years) in 1994. Starting life as an apprentice electrician and working his way up, combining work with university studies, Jim became COO and then CEO of Navman, taking the organisation from a $3 million company to a $500 million worldwide brand.

After the sale of Navman in 2006, Jim initially semi-retired and worked as a company director/consultant for various technology companies such as Fusion, BCS, Actronics, Motion Industries and Compac Sorting Equipment. In 2009, Jim’s love of sport saw him take on various roles over the last 10 years, such as CEO of New Zealand Rugby League, COO of the NRL (Sydney) and Managing Director/Chairman of New Zealand Warriors. Jim is again semi-retired but remains a director/consultant in business and sport.

Sarah Bate-Simpson
General Manager
Sarah was appointed General Manager of Health Tick in April 2023. Having worked in clinical, operational, and management roles in the health sector for over 20 years, Sarah brings a wealth of experience in customer experience and operational management. Wellbeing is at the heart of Sarah’s mission, and her focus is on ensuring the operations team and experienced registered nurses have the right systems and support to deliver premium wellbeing services across New Zealand.
